What Your Results Mean
- CPM (Characters per Minute): Characters currently typed, including spaces, punctuation, and uncorrected errors, divided by elapsed minutes. Read accuracy alongside it.
- WPM (Words per Minute): Your typing speed based on correct characters. Five correct characters count as one word, including spaces.
- Accuracy: The percentage of your character entries that were correct. Fixing a mistake improves your final text, but the original error still affects accuracy.
- Characters: The letters, spaces, and punctuation currently in your typing box.
- Errors Made: Every incorrect character entry, including mistakes you later fix.
- Uncorrected Errors: Mistakes that remain in your final text when the test ends.

Understand Characters per Minute
A character can be a letter, number, punctuation mark, or space. Typed CPM uses the characters left in your typing box, including uncorrected mistakes.
| Measure | What It Uses |
|---|---|
| Typed CPM | All characters in the box per elapsed minute. |
| Correct-character WPM | Matching characters ÷ 5 per elapsed minute. |
| Entry Accuracy | Correct entries as a percentage of all entries. |
Compare the Same Character Count
If you type 300 characters in one minute, typed CPM is 300. If only 285 match, correct-character WPM is 57.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is CPM in typing?
CPM means characters per minute. This tool divides the characters currently in the typing box by elapsed minutes, including spaces, punctuation, and uncorrected errors.
How do I convert CPM to WPM?
Divide CPM by five when both rates use the same character count and time. Typed CPM and correct-character WPM differ when mistakes remain, so conversion may not match the display.
Does high CPM mean accurate typing?
No. Typed CPM includes uncorrected characters. Read entry accuracy and error counts alongside the character rate to understand how carefully you typed.
