Choose a Typing Test Length
Choose a timed typing test that fits the time you have. Sessions run from 30 seconds to 10 minutes, with words per minute (WPM), accuracy and character counts shown as you type. Each test starts its timer with your first character.
Find the Right Length for Your Session
- 30-second typing test — a quick warm-up or a short check when you have little time.
- 1-minute typing test — a convenient length for a brief practice session and repeat attempts.
- 3-minute typing test — more time to settle into the paragraph and find a comfortable rhythm.
- 5-minute typing test — a longer session for practicing a steady pace and careful typing.
- 10-minute typing test — extended practice when you want to work on maintaining your pace over time.
Typing Test for Kids
For familiar stories about animals, school, and everyday adventures, try our typing test for kids. It starts with a 30-second Easy passage and offers the same five time options with child-focused text.
Make Your Results Easier to Compare
Use the same duration and text difficulty when comparing attempts. An Easy paragraph and a Hard paragraph ask different things of you, so a change in WPM does not always mean your typing has improved or slowed down. Take a short break between attempts and compare accuracy alongside speed.
Start at a Comfortable Pace
Read the opening words, place your hands comfortably and begin when you are ready. You can use Backspace to correct mistakes. Aim for a pace you can maintain without repeatedly losing your place in the paragraph.
